\n<\/a>Goldgenie were very proud to team up with\u00a0top online mobile phones retailer Mobiles.co.uk<\/a> a few months ago to search for the saddest cases of broken phones across the U.K. and of course the stories behind them. \u00a0All for a good cause of course… A competition! The competition winner would receive a shiny new replacement from Goldgenie, a 24k Gold embellished Swarovski Crystal adorned iPhone 6 Brilliance<\/a>\u00a0worth \u00a0over \u00a33000. \u00a0The stories and photos of fractured phones were shared on social media and we must say, they made for both great entertainment and sorrow. \u00a0If we could have, we would have replaced every broken phone with a shiny new gold one but a competition is not a competition unless it there is a winner and so the lucky break was earned by an unusual case in Scotland where Glenn\u00a0Watson’s iPhone had an unfortunate run-in with his uncle’s hens.<\/p>\n

Glenn, who is a member of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, was feeding his uncle’s hens in the Scottish highlands when the phone fell out of his pocket into their pen. \u00a0He did not realise this until half an hour\u00a0later and when he returned, sure enough, the hens had noticed this shiny foreign object in their territory. \u00a0Not only were they pecking away at the glass but Glenn had to fight to get his phone back!<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to check my phone and realised it wasn\u2019t on me, and was probably still in the run. The hens were all gathered around acting a bit frantic. By the time I got to the phone, which by this point was not on the chair but on the ground being attacked, the cockerel decided it was my turn and turned against me.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to run towards the hen hut with him chasing me, but I managed to trick him inside and locked it. I was amazed that they had caused so much damage to my phone, but I\u2019ve been pecked before and bled so I should have known the condition it would be in. I don\u2019t feed the hens any more. I leave that to my uncle!\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn’s Lucky Break: #peckedtodeath<\/p><\/div>\n

Glenn’s photo in the #brokemyphone competition and his hashtag #peckedtodeath caught the judges’ eyes and amongst over 250 other pitiful\u00a0tales of nocturnal gallivanting, mysteries, washing machines and taxis, this unusual and unexpected scenario stood out by a fragment. \u00a0Instead of paying to fix or replace his phone, Glenn managed to keep using his shattered gadget but he did admit that the glass cut his fingers and unsurprisingly the phone’s behaviour was somewhat erratic and would cut out often.<\/p>\n

Laban was surprised the hens could cause such severe damage to the device and couldn’t understand how it was still working!<\/p>\n

We were so glad to replace the phone with our luxury 24k Gold-plated upgrade. \u00a0Goldgenie founder and CEO Laban Roomes travelled up to Scotland to personally deliver the phone to Glenn. \u00a0He was delighted to meet Glenn, his uncle and the mischievous hens at the scene of the crime. \u00a0Glenn assured him that he would not be dropping his Goldgenie phone into the hen run and in fact had stopped feeding the hens altogether since the incident, leaving that to his uncle.<\/p>\n

Laban, who really enjoyed his trip to Scotland, stated, “It was a real pleasure to meet Glenn, the chickens and his uncle George. Glenn, who was beside himself with excitement that he had won such a prestigious prize, was a wonderful young man and it could not have gone to a kinder more grateful person.\u00a0The 24k Gold and Swarovski crystal iPhone 6 prize is worth \u00a33,200 and when presented to Glenn he said “This phone costs twice as much as my motorbike! – I will NOT \u00a0be dropping this phone in the Hen house” ”<\/p>\n

Glenn and his uncle introduced Laban to some less harmful chicklets:<\/p>\n

And Laban introduced the chicklets to the concept of a Gold iPhone 6 as a preventative measure. \u00a0Curious as they were, thankfully, these young chicklets were more trustworthy than their elders…<\/p>\n
